progress

Not much progres at the moment - recovering from a total knee replaement !! So many painkillers - when I hobble around I swear I rattle !! lol!!

Cap Rail Varnishing.

we have 5 coats of progressivly thinned varnish on the cap rail at last - one coat of neat varnish ............looking good! 6 or more coats of neat varnish to go - the weather will dictate the scheduke!!

well - there are now at least 8 coats of varnish on the wheel-house - ready for the windows.First, central window is IN !!

Wheelhouse varnishing.

well..............people do ask...WHY..well..we have just had the wettest THREE MONTHS on record - and that's 100 freakin YEARS.


At last I have been able to give the wheelhouse some coats of varnish, one more this weekend and it will be ready fro installing the window system.at last.
It DOES look good!
The foremast is still coming along nicely too - part time working only - but coming along nicely.
The other project this year before it snows or whatever (!) is painting the hull - we may get it done yet - if the weather is good during August.
The scaffolding has been started !!!!

Foremast Construction

 I've  been scarphing,..........scarphing...........scarphing....and more ......scarphing -  the sitka spruce timber for the foremast ( 50"scarphs for the corner posts.)
All done !
NOW.....I am planing square all the scarphed planks, all day planing,all yesterday.....all today.........and all tomorrow .........and every evening of next week !!! planing.....planing....planing.................
After that will be cutting the rebates in the corner posts and bevelling the insdes of the corner posts.

Here , with the help of Lucho Roi and Elliott Hughes - the Main Mast is finally seeing the light of day and some fresh air !!Unfortunately you can't see the taper.The mast is tapered left and right and the foreward edge.The flat area (aft) is where the sail track will eventually sit.

Octagonal mast section

The mast is tapered,mostly hollow - solid at the base, where the boom and spreaders fit and at the top.

The white pipe is for the antennae,lighting,etc cables to run in.

65ft of Sitka Spruce without a single knot.

Next is to round it to an oval.
